What are the qualifications of your instructors?
We teach off of the DVIDA syllabus, which is recognized by the National Dance Council of America, and is one of the most widely used syllabi in the nation! All of our instructors are professionals with years of dance experience, and just as importantly teaching experience! Whether you're a beginner or advanced dancer, our instructors will provide quality instruction that meets your needs. Likewise, our instructors have a deep commitment to what Shake It Up stands for: quality teaching in an environment where our students are treated as we would like to be treated.

Should I Do Private or Group Lessons?
Private lessons are the best way to increase your dancing skills; because you benefit from the personal time with the instructor. On average, a student can usually learn about twice as fast in a private lesson than in a group class. Private lessons are the best way to learn technique and learn how to lead or follow. Group classes are great for learning steps and patterns in a social group environment.

Do I Need To Have A Partner?
No, none of our dance instruction services require a student to have a partner. In fact many of our students do not come with a partner. In a private lesson, the student can dance with the instructor. During our group classes, the females will rotate through the gentleman partners. For our group class students who do bring a partner, rotating partners in a group class setting will help prevent bad habits that could be formed when only dancing with one partner without private instruction. During our Saturday night social dances, students have a great time dancing with everyone at the party, not only the person that they may have come with.

What should I wear?
Students in our studio dress in casual wear. When you are first starting out, any shoe that will not fly off your foot while dancing will be fine. Dance shoes do help significantly however, and you should consider purchasing some the more that you dance. It's similar to using cleats if you were playing football, it makes a difference. We sell shoes here for around the price of $50. On Saturday nights sometimes students dress up slightly more, but casual wear is still appropriate.

I'm Nervous to Dance, What Do I Do?
Everyone at some point, has been, or still gets nervous to dance. Please remember that Shake It Up is a dance school, and being a good dancer is not required, it is gained. Often times it takes an individual who is nervous to try it once, then they realize that being nervous was really not necessary. Shake It Up provides an environment that promotes learning in a fun, relaxing environment.

Can I dance with someone the same gender?
In Private Lessons and during the Social Dancing portion of Saturday nights, you may dance the leaders or the followers part and/or dance with a member of the same gender. In Group Classes men are required to learn the leaders part and females the followers part, and everyone is required to rotate partners during Group Classes.

Do I Need To Sign A Contract To Join?
No, all of our instruction services can be purchased on a pay-as-you-go system. We do also provide for bulk discounts for those that would like to pre-pay.

Are There Any Membership Fees?
No, everyone is welcome at Shake It Up, and is considered a member of the studio. Just as we don't have contracts to sign-up, we also don't have membership fees, and all of our instruction services can be purchased on a pay-as-you-go system. We do also provide for bulk discounts for those that would like to pre-pay.

In our group classes, we change our schedule every 6 weeks, and you are more than welcome to choose whichever dance you would like from that group class schedule as well. What are the benefits of group lessons?
Group classes are a great way to gain knowledge and learn steps and patterns in a variety of dances that you may be interested in. A benefit to our 6 week group classes is that they are all progressive; meaning that each class builds from the previous week, and the classes start over from the very beginning in the next 6 week session. Group class students also have the benefit of dancing with a group of people, giving you the ability to gain practice with your leading and following with others. All classes are designed for students who are brand new to dancing, with the exception of our intermediate level classes.

How many people are in the group?
The size of the group class varies, the average size is about 20 people per group. If the group size becomes too large we will do what we can to make it a good learning environment, and likewise, even if the group class is small there will always be a class.

What is the price of group lessons?
Group classes are $50 for an entire 6 week class. The group will meet for 1 hour each week at that class's scheduled time for 6 weeks. You are more than welcome to take multiple classes during a 6 week session. Many people like to join a variety of classes, to learn different dance styles and/or to join a class that is immediately before or after one another.

What dances can I learn in group lessons?
